Excessive Sweating Treatments

Are you one of these people that always seems to have underarm sweat even when you aren’t active?  Do you constantly think you smell?  Have you tried numerous deodorants in order to minimize sweating yet, have had no success?  If so, you are the perfect candidate for underarm injections of Botulinum toxin type A.

Botulinum toxin A is an injectable neurotoxin, better known under brand names such as Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®.  These injections block the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which binds with sweat glands to signal the release of sweat.

During stressful situations, during emergencies, or when the body temperature rises, the sympathetic nervous system activates sweat glands through the chemical messenger acetylcholine.  Although sweating is a normal and necessary process, in some people, sweat glands are overactive creating excessive amounts of sweat.  This condition is known as hyperhidrosis.  When Botulinum toxin type A is injected directly into the areas that sweat, overactive nerves are essentially paralyzed and they cannot signal sweat glands.  Thus, sweating is minimized or eliminated altogether.  It is important to remember, this treatment is only effective in areas that are injected.

What are the BENEFITS of treating Hyperhidrosis with neuromodulator injections?

  • Less Invasive Than Surgical Procedures
  • There is Minimal Pain Upon Injections
  • It is Generally Safe with Minimal Risks
  • It is an Effective Treatment with some studies showing a 90% decrease in sweat production within 2 weeks after injections.
